Pledging for Change

Serving a Community of Earth Wise Organizations and Consumers

In an article this week in the Guardian. Peter Singer describes a movement which has had 20% of this years graduates take an oath,

[MBA} students are circulating an oath that commits them to pursue their work "in an ethical manner"; "to strive to create sustainable economic, social, and environmental prosperity worldwide"; and to manage their enterprises "in good faith, guarding against decisions and behaviour that advance my own narrow ambitions but harm the enterprise and the societies it serves."

Ironically, P-CED followed Harvard into Russia in 1999 after the collapse of the rouble and this may well be one of the roots. This ought to be a something we could use to self-promote as one of the pioneers. I'm not sure that we'll be credited however.

Thanks for posting here Karen.

I'd placed it on the other group as an illustration of ethical business taking the lead with regard to what becomes mainstream business school thinking. Hence my belief in it raising the image/branding of what we stand for,

Today, there's another illustration in the call for a people-centered economy from a leading economics professor at Columbia, reinforcing what my colleague Terry delivered as a concept 13 years before.

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. -- John Wesley, "Letters of John Wesley"

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centres of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. -- Robert F. Kennedy
